MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
SUMMER 2006-2007
Greetings!
It is just over a year since I was checking out this website for the very first time too. I used to drive by the Optimist Club on Queenston Road and was always intrigued by the "Charlie Brown" sign that said "Are you afraid of Public Speaking?" "Who isn't?!", I used to think.
At the time, I had just started to attend a lot of business-related networking events and found the prospect of standing up and introducing myself to a room full of people very daunting. I decided to give Toastmasters a call and attended a meeting a few days later.
I can't even begin to describe to you the warm welcome that I received. I joined immediately - and haven't looked back.
I have enjoyed the challenge of learning to speak more confidently in front of a group, but more importantly, I have enjoyed the comraderie of a wonderful group of supportive, interesting and funny people. Ours is a diverse group of people of different ages and backgrounds, all with one common thread: to increase our own self-confidence in public speaking and to help others to do the same.
The environment is non-threatening, totally supportive and fun! There is no pressure; you can more along at your own pace. I have found that not only has my public speaking greatly improved, but so have my leadership skills and over-all self-confidence.
It is a win-win situation!
I strongly encourage you to come out as a guest to one of our meetings and see what we're all about. I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed!
